Monique was joined by Kevin Briggins to discuss the recent stabbing at a high school track meet in Texas. Is this the next George Floyd situation where a black kid is getting railroaded because he stabbed a white guy? What does biblical justice have to say about this very tragic situation? Let's talk about it.

Monique was joined by our friend, Kevin Briggins, co-host of the Off Code podcast (with Monique) and the Informed Takes podcast (with Devin Smith).

Tonight’s discussion focused on the tragic incident involving Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf in Frisco, TX.

Kevin said, “The divide isn’t race. The divide, as always, is ideology.” Many of the responses can be seen as “framed in the historical narrative of black oppression…they don’t see these things as individual incidents; they see them as continuous events in a line of white oppression against black people.”

How should Christians respond?

  • View this for the tragedy that it is and not politically; two families are mourning and we should focus on the real tragedy

  • If we want justice, we have to care about truth

What about forgiveness?

  • See post from Allie Beth Stuckey: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIUmsQgywZk/?hl=en&img_index=1

  • Jesus and Stephen are good examples of forgiveness (Luke 23:34 & Acts 7:60)

  • There is a distinction between justice and forgiveness; here on earth, the government/judges will exact justice (and, ultimately, God will exact justice); however, it’s up to the individual to forgive

Conclusions:

  • This is something we must LEARN FROM as a nation

  • We cannot continue to be divided by race

  • The TRUE problems within the culture MUST be addressed, particularly the “street culture” within the black community; Real issues, such as low-income families, fatherlessness, single-mother households need to be addressed

  • We need to PRAY for the families involved, PRAY for our nation, and PRAY for the Church to be a light in the darkness

  • We are FAMILY, regardless of skin color (John 17: 20-23)
